Getting ready for your interior shoot
1 - Prepare the styling
beds and linen
Have beds freshly made and linen ironed. Crisp, wrinkle-free styling photographs beautifully.
fresh greenery
Fresh flowers or foliage are always worth it, they bring life and organic shape to an interior. Real greenery only where possible; artificial plants can flatten the mood of an otherwise beautifully styled room.
clean space
Have the whole house clean and ready before the shoot. This includes windows (one of the most important details, as dirty glass will show in every wide shot and can’t always be fixed in post production), garden tidied, surfaces cleared of cables and everyday items out of sight. Think of how the space would look in a design magazine, then prepare accordingly.
2 - Have a shot list ready
priority rooms
Note the spaces that matter most, a hero living area, a bathroom or specific outdoor area. That way, we can make sure enough time is allocated to each of those rooms.
details you love
Any design features or decorative pieces you'd like captured, and that shouldn’t be missed.
intended use
Let me know two things ahead of time: where the images will be used (Airbnb listing, portfolio use, social media, or print) and whether you need portrait or landscape orientation. Both directly influence how I frame and compose each shot.
what to avoid
Any angles or areas you'd prefer not to feature.
3 - Light is everything
Before the shoot, I'll ask for the floor plan and address to work out the best time of day. Morning light suits east-facing spaces, while west-facing rooms are best in the late afternoon. Getting the timing right makes all the difference.
